I just cant believe this!!!!

I just seen this on tv this morning and I am so upset about it that I just have to blog about it to get it off my chest (no pun intended) first watch this ad........

I'm very big on breast cancer awareness...my mom had breast cancer and as you know from reading my blog I try to find ways to help in not only breast cancer awareness but in cancer research....I find this ad VERY distasteful!!! I feel the whole point of what it is suppose to be about is lost! They talk about wanting to make the big WOW factor in ads now..I don't know if you have seen the one about teens and texting if you haven't seen it then view this ad....

Now THAT gives you the WOW factor!!!! That hits home...that lets you know the effects of texting while driving no questions asked....see the difference between the two ads??? I'm not saying that is the way things need to be advertised, but if people are wanting more of a WOW factor when it comes to ads then maybe ads that have to deal with things like breast cancer should be more about the effects of going thru cancer treatments has on a person..the way their body changes and their appearance changes,I watched my own mom go thru this....I think there would be more of a WOW factor if men and women had to see what a woman goes thru when she goes thru cancer treatment, losing their hair, being sick all the time, in some cases even losing their breast!!!! Make the reality of this disease be the WOW factor not some woman with big boobs in a skimpy bikini getting the attention of all the men at a pool...thats NOT the reality of this at all.....I think if people had to see things like the reality of this disease that would give you the same kind of WOW factor as the texting ad....we don't need to see women's boobs thrown out there as objects anymore and the "save the boobs ad" did that once again!!! You want to get the message out there about serious things...then make the ad serious!!! Don't take something like breast cancer and make it another way for you to flash womens breast around on the tv screen some more...just watching tv gives us way more of that then we need to see!!! So now give me your opinion...how do you feel about this ads???

The breast cancer ad is ridiculous. They've sort of made a joke out of something very serious. I give it two thums down.

It definitely has the "wow that's tacky" factor. That was absolutely ridiculous and offensive to anyone who has had breast cancer touch their lives.

I saw that ad regarding texting on "the doctors" the other day. I had to cover my eyes most of the time.... it was pretty scary, but very realistic too.

The first one, I thought it was a spoof at first but then at the end it didn't look like it was. I agree, it was very distasteful and inappropriate. It seemed to say, "save the BIG boobs" not just save the boobs. ugh.

(and hi, I don't think I've been here before, I clicked your user name from another blog and thought I'd see what your blog was all about)

(hi again, thanks for your comment... yes, I noticed the follower feature isn't working today... hopefully soon! - seems to be a blogger glitch)

OMG how awful, are we supposed to believe that we only need to save our boobs so that people can stare at them...goodness me, are we supposed to care more about that than living to see our kids grow up, to live healthy long lives...ads like this make me want to spit...sorry, got carried away.

yes the second ad is scary, but thats the point and is talking about something we can casue ourselves...

great blog Dena, sorry i've been away so long...not enough hours in the day xxxx

The whole point of commercial ads is to GET YOUR ATTENTION and LEAVE AN IMPRESSION.

The minds behind the ads know from research that they only have a few seconds to get your attention and to hold it.

I understand why they did the ad that way They clearly GET YOUR ATTENTION and then hold it throughout the ad as she walks around. So yes, they achieved their goal.

Unfortunately, it was done with poor taste.

They used sex appeal to raise breast cancer awareness. Good intentions.....poor methods.

And yes, I saw the ad on texting and driving and sent it out to some teens I know. That one was good.

Ok out of fear of being called a pig and a number of other things, I was going to skip responding but, as you know, I am not one to keep my mouth shut.

This ad did exactly what it was supposed to do. If it had been something more like the second one, would you have posted it here? I doubt it. Yes you may have seen it but never have shared it.

Now, the "Save the boob" ad has you talking. And not just talking, but sharing it. Now you have others that see it and watch it and then talk about it. Millions of people that may never have seen this ad, have now watched it. Wither to drool over the girls breasts, or to complain about the tactics used to convey the message.

So, whether or not you like the ad, the word is out there and they have succeeded in their goals.

But I didnt share it to campaign for the "save the boobs" ad I shared it to show how distasteful people in charge of these things have become. This is a serious matter...that ad DOES NOT SHOW THAT!!! Instead it shows more of how pighead some men can be showing their attention to some women walking around with her boobs hanging out!!!!! Everyone has their opinion....I left mine in more places then this and it was good to see that 99% of the people felt the exact same way....when your life has been touched by something like this....you take it a bit more personal...and you certainly do not want it turned into somethin like this. Sure the word got out about the commercial but did even ONE person get the message??? I doubt it!!!!!

You are right. When your life has been directly touched by the topic of the ad, you do take it more personally. If you recall, my wife has had 3 separate surgeries to deal with breast cancer. She is one of the survivors. And only because it was detected early. Which is why I am glad that they do campaigns like this to raise awareness.

As for this ad in particular, you have to admit, this is the type of thing that will catch a man's attention. So, half of the world's population that may never stop and even think about breast cancer awareness is now talking about an ad for that very thing. Now they go home and talk about it. Maybe even talk their wife or girlfriend into being checked.

So, I stand by my original comment. Whether or not you like the ad, it got the attention it sought. It may not save everyone but if it saves even one woman's life it was all worth it.

But you are NOT going to get me to believe that men went home after seeing this commercial and said honey you should get your breast checked!!!!! When it was shown on Good Morning America there were men that were appauled by the ad and the distaste of it too!! Alot of people didnt even know what the ad was for...now thats a real good impression they are leaving..right???? I just think its time that we stop feeding society with all this crap saying they want the WOW factor and I guess in alot of cases that means half naked women??? That is NOT right!!! I mean whats next...what about ads for cervical cancer or prostrate cancer...how far are they willing to go???? The fact is this is serious!! THEY NEED TO SHOW THAT!!!! This ad got attention by dumb ass guys who cant help but check out another set of boobs and then by a bunch of people who find it very DISTASTEFUL....I dont think it made a bunch more people aware of breast cancer or the statistics of it or even the effects it has on a person....you know all the serious things about it that would be a way bigger WOW factor for people to be faced with the TRUTH ...but instead we give them more boobs to stare at!!! DUMB!!

This will be the disclaimer part:

I was not attempting in any way to change your opinion. Or anyone else's for that matter. There are valid arguments all around. In fact I agree with you that it is a sad thing when this type of ad has to be used to draw attention.

My point was simply to offer another view by pointing out the merits of this type of shock tactic. The intent was to get people talking and it certainly has.

So, to anyone that may have taken my comments personally, I apologize. You all certainly make very valid points and everyone has a right to their own thoughts and emotions. I was in no way trying to dissuade anyone into any other point of view.

I will let it drop before Dena flies to NY just to kick my ass.
