BE AWARE

The American Cancer Society's most recent estimates for breast cancer in the United States are for 2010:

  • About 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.
  • About 54,010 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be diagnosed (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer).
  • About 39,840 women will die from breast cancer
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. The chance of developing invasive breast cancer at some time in a woman's life is a little less than 1 in 8
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. The chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a woman's death is about 1 in 35
Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990, with larger decreases in women younger than 50. These decreases are believed to be the result of earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment

At this time there are over 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States

(my mom lost her battle with breast cancer in 1998)

If Roses grow in Heaven
Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.

Tell her that I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.

Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away.

Hello Dena, nice to see you around again. I remember your strong feelings about this issue, and your story about your mom. Cancer is no stranger to my family, and hopefully your efforts in advertising this will wake someone up and get checked out.

I think everyone knows someone who has or had cancer.

Thanks for the reminder to get checked.
